Tips to boost your immune system

With all the attention on viruses, flu, and other sicknesses, it can make anyone a bit more on edge. So, what can you do about it? What is under your control? The easy answer and the most obvious is your nutrition.  A healthy nutrition plan along with an active lifestyle is your best defense against any sickness.

Seem like a bold claim? Can I really back this up? Yes!  First, let's start with what not to eat.  That's right, eating certain foods and especially ultra-processed foods weaken your bodies natural defenses. The top of this list is of course sugar.  Processed Sugar weakens your immune system. According to a study through Loma Linda University, 100 grams of sugar can make your white blood cells 40 percent less effective in killing germs and this effect can last up to 5 hours after you eat it. This is especially important because white blood cells are the powerhouse of your immune system. "Research has also revealed that viral replication in bugs, such as the influenza virus, relies on the amount of glucose available in the bloodstream. This means that bacteria and viruses feed on sugar. Higher levels of sugar in the blood can increase the survival rate of bacteria and viruses." 3

Processed Sugar will provide you nothing but inflammation - inflammation of

cardiac muscle, arteries, and many other systems. Just one can of soda can cause low grade chronic or constant inflammation.

What are the common names of sugar? Sucrose or "table sugar" is the most common type of sugar, high fructose corn syrup, basic corn syrup, agave nectar, Beet sugar, Blackstrap molasses, brown sugar, Cane juice crystals, Cane sugar, Coconut sugar, Confectioner's sugar (powdered sugar), Date sugar, Evaporated cane juice, Florida crystals, Fruit juice, Fruit juice concentrate, Golden sugar, Golden syrup, Grape sugar, Invert sugar, Maple syrup, Molasses, Muscovado sugar, Panela sugar, Raw sugar, Sorghum syrup, Sucanat, and Turbinado sugar. So based on this brief but powerful overview, sugar is enemy one if you want to defend yourself against viruses, bacteria, and other inflammation-based diseases.
